Privacy Policy
What Casters Calculator processes when you use the calculators, the guides, and the email-a-PDF form, and what it does not do. This policy describes the practices of casterscalculator.org.
The short version
- The calculators work without an account and without cookies. You type values in, the site computes a result, and nothing else happens unless you choose to send something.
- The site runs no advertising, no behavioural analytics, and no cross-site tracking. There are no advertising or analytics cookies to consent to, because none are set.
- Personal information is never sold or rented, and is not shared for anyone else's marketing.
- The only personal information the site holds is what you deliberately give it: an email address used to send yourself a PDF, a message you submit, or a message you email.
What happens when you run a calculator
When you calculate, the values you entered are sent from your browser to this site's own calculation endpoint so the server can evaluate the formula and return the result, along with the trace of intermediate values and the substituted formula shown on the page. That request is not linked to your identity, is not stored as a per-visitor record, and is not used to build a profile. It exists only to compute and return the answer you asked for.
Anonymous visitors are not given cookies by this site. Nothing is set in your browser when you browse the calculators or the guides; cookies appear only for a signed-in administrator session, and they are described under Cookies below.
Information you choose to send
- Email a PDF. The form that emails you a calculator result collects the email address, an optional name, and the calculator and page the request came from, so the message can be delivered and any delivery problem can be traced. If you also tick the box for occasional tool updates, the site records that consent and sends a verification message before adding you to that list; you can withdraw at any time through Contact, and every update message carries its own unsubscribe route.
- Feedback on a calculator. The feedback form on a calculator page asks for the type of problem and your message. It does not ask for, and does not record, your email address. If you want a reply, use the Contact page instead.
- Contact. Contact works by email: your own mail application sends a message to the administrator address published on that page. The message and your address then live in the administrator's mailbox under that mailbox provider's practices, and are kept only while the issue is being handled and for a reasonable record of it afterward.
What is stored, and for how long
- Calculator runs: not retained as identifiable records. Results exist for the duration of the request and the page you are looking at.
- PDF-by-email requests: retained for up to one year under the site's retention setting, after which a scheduled maintenance task removes them. You can ask for earlier deletion at any time.
- Feedback messages: retained for up to 90 days under the site's retention setting, then removed by the same maintenance task. They are kept that long because a reported problem sometimes needs to be re-checked after a later change.
- Operational diagnostics: technical error records, retained for up to 90 days under the site's retention setting.
- Server logs: the web server writes standard access and error logs, which the host rotates daily and keeps for ten days. These record the request, the time, the response status and coarse technical detail such as the referring URL that your browser sends. They are used for security and troubleshooting and are not combined with any account.
The retention periods above are this site's current configuration. They are operational settings rather than promises cast in stone, and where a period is enforced by a scheduled task, that task has to actually run for the period to hold; if it stops, records persist until they are deleted or you ask for deletion.
Cookies
Browsing the site anonymously sets no cookies. When an administrator signs in, WordPress sets the session cookies it needs to keep that session signed in and to protect the request against cross-site forgery; those cookies are removed on sign-out. The site sets no advertising, analytics, or cross-site tracking cookies, and there is no public account system to sign up to.
Who else is involved
- Hosting: the site runs on a single hosting environment, which stores everything described above on the site's behalf.
- Email delivery: messages are sent through the mail system of that hosting environment to the address you provide, so your email address is processed by the mail provider to deliver the message.
- Bot protection: no third-party CAPTCHA or bot-protection service is currently enabled. If one is turned on, it will be named in this policy before it is enabled, and it will process only what it needs to score the request.
- No analytics, advertising, or data broker: the site loads no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts, and does not sell, rent, or trade personal information, or share it for anyone else's marketing.
- Legal disclosure: information may be disclosed if required by law, or where strictly necessary to operate the service or protect it from abuse.
Your choices and how to exercise them
- Access and correction: ask through Contact and the site will tell you what it holds against your email address and correct anything wrong.
- Deletion: PDF-by-email records can be erased against your address on request.
- Updates list: withdraw consent at any time through Contact; no further update messages are sent once you do.
- No automated decisions: nothing on this site makes an automated decision about you, and no calculator result is used to profile you.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, passwords are stored as one-way hashes, access to the server is restricted to the operator, and the software is kept updated. No system can promise that nothing will ever go wrong, so this policy does not claim that the site is breach-proof or that any particular encryption or certification is in place. If you believe the site has been compromised, use Contact immediately.
Children
This site is a technical reference for adults researching or specifying casters, wheels, and material-handling equipment. It is not directed at children.
Visitors outside the United States
The site is published for a United States audience and is operated on the hosting environment described above. If you use it from elsewhere, you are sending your information to that environment, and the practices in this policy apply. This policy is written to describe what the site actually does; it is not a claim of compliance with any particular privacy framework, and a reader with a specific legal question should take their own advice.
Changes to this policy
When the site's data practices change, this page is updated to describe them, including any new tool, provider, or retention period, before or as the change takes effect. The revision date below records when the wording last changed.
