Leveling Caster Pad Pressure Calculator

Estimate the load on each leveling caster and the pressure its pad puts on the floor when a machine is parked and leveled.

Leveling casters carry the load on a pad when the equipment is parked, so the floor sees the load through a much smaller area than a rolling wheel. Enter the parked weight, the number of leveling casters, and the pad diameter; the calculator returns the load per pad and the pad pressure in psi.

Small pads concentrate load quickly, which matters on raised floors, tile, and thin slabs. If the pressure looks high, a larger pad or a different leveling series spreads it without changing the equipment.

Inputs

Parked load and pad

Range: 10–100,000 lbf

Range: 3–12

Range: 0.5–6 in

Result

Load per leveling pad (lbf)
200.0
Pad pressure on the floor (psi)
182.9

What to check

  • Use the parked weight, not a rolling travel load.
  • Divide by the number of pads actually touching the floor.
  • Compare psi with the floor's published capacity and the pad manufacturer's limits.

Pad pressure assumes a flat, rigid floor and even load sharing. Floor capacity and pad deformation require the building's structural information and the manufacturer's data.
