Caster Total Cost of Ownership Calculator

Compare initial fleet purchase, replacement parts, labor, and downtime, then estimate payback when higher upfront cost lowers annual running costs.

The sticker price is only one part of caster ownership cost. Enter fleet size, both prices, annual replacements per caster, labor and downtime per change, and the comparison period. The calculator reports annual running costs separately from each option’s initial fleet purchase, then compares total costs over the full period.

Payback is only meaningful when the premium option has a higher initial fleet cost and lower annual running costs. When either condition is absent, the result explains why no positive payback interval applies. Use measured maintenance records for replacement frequency; projections are only as sound as those assumptions.

Payback is calculated from the higher initial fleet cost divided by monthly running-cost savings.

What to check

  • Use the replacement frequency from maintenance records where possible.
  • Include initial fleet purchase separately from annual replacement-related running costs.
  • Treat payback as applicable only when the premium option costs more upfront and reduces annual running costs.
