Caster Height Change Calculator
See how switching wheel diameters raises or lowers the mounting height of a caster, before a replacement throws a workbench or rack out of level.
A caster’s mounting height is tied to its wheel diameter: half of any diameter difference lands directly in the height of the equipment. Enter the current and proposed diameters and the calculator returns the signed change, so a drop from 8 inch to 6 inch wheels shows as a one inch loss of height.
Use it before replacing a full set, especially on workbenches, conveyor stands, and equipment where a level surface matters. A matched diameter keeps the height; a smaller wheel needs a shim, a spacer, or a different caster series to compensate.

Calculation logicWhat to check
- Take half of the diameter difference, not the whole difference.
- Confirm the plate and fork style match before comparing overall heights.
- Check the equipment for leveling feet or shims that can absorb the change.
